About this symbol
The full block, Alt+219, filled a whole character cell on the IBM PC screen. With the half blocks ▀ ▄ ▌ ▐ and the shades ░ ▒ ▓ from the same character set, code page 437, it let DOS programs draw progress bars, windows and pictures out of text.
