About this symbol

The cent sign marks hundredths of the dollar and of other currencies. On American manual typewriters it was the shifted character on the 6 key. ASCII, the character set behind early computers, left it out, and computer keyboards gave that key to the caret ^, so most keyboards today have no key for it.
