About this symbol
₠ is the sign of the European Currency Unit, the ECU, a basket of European currencies used for accounting from 1979 to 1998, before the euro. It joins the letters C and E. Unicode’s notes take care to say that the euro sign € is a different character: “euro, not ecu”.
