About this symbol

K, the kelvin sign, is the unit of the absolute temperature scale proposed in 1848 by William Thomson, later Lord Kelvin, which starts at absolute zero, −273.15 °C. Since 1967 it is written K with no degree sign, and the separate kelvin sign exists only for compatibility with older character sets: the plain letter K is the one to use.
