About this symbol

⎎, a small loop with two tails, is the hysteresis symbol of electronics. Drawn inside a logic gate, it marks a Schmitt trigger, a circuit that switches at one level going up and another going down, which cleans up a noisy signal. Otto Schmitt invented the circuit in the 1930s.
