About this symbol

The anchor stands for hope and steadiness, from the Letter to the Hebrews, which calls hope an anchor of the soul. Early Christians in Rome drew it in the catacombs, where its crossbar could stand in for a cross. Navies and sailors have used it as their emblem for centuries.
