About this symbol
The recycling symbol was designed in 1970 by Gary Anderson, then a 23-year-old student at the University of Southern California. He entered it in a contest run by the Container Corporation of America for the first Earth Day, and won.
The design is in the public domain, so anyone may use it. Seeing the symbol on a product does not always mean the product can be recycled where you live.
