About this symbol
The wheel of dharma is one of the oldest symbols of Buddhism. Its eight spokes stand for the Noble Eightfold Path, the Buddha’s teaching on how to end suffering. A version with 24 spokes, the Ashoka Chakra, sits at the centre of the flag of India.
