About this symbol
The registered sign marks a trademark that has been registered with a national trademark office. In the United States the Lanham Act of 1946 made it the official notice of a federal registration.
Putting ® on a mark that is not registered is misleading, and in some countries, including the United Kingdom, it is an offence under section 95 of the Trade Marks Act 1994. A mark that is claimed but not registered uses ™ instead.
