About this symbol

The capital Å is also the symbol of the ångström, a unit of length of one ten-billionth of a metre, used for the sizes of atoms and the wavelengths of light. It is named after the Swedish physicist Anders Jonas Ångström. Unicode has a separate ångström sign, Å, but only for compatibility with older character sets; the letter is the one to use.
