About this symbol

Å, the ångström sign, is a unit of length of a tenth of a nanometre, named after the Swedish physicist Anders Jonas Ångström, who used it in 1868 to list the wavelengths of sunlight. Unicode’s notes say the letter Å is preferred, and the sign is kept only for compatibility.
